Summary of the 2nd Green Corps Report

Since last year, for a week, from May 2nd to 9th, 2002, 100 selected future leaders (Green Corps) of Korea visited the deforestation and yellow dust area in China, performed tree-planting projects and enjoyed cultural exchanges with Chinese youths.
During July, 100 Chinese youths visited Korea at Seoul, Busan and Gyeongju and also performed similar activities. This year, for the second time, from April 4th to 10th, 2003, 80 delegates including 66 university students from Seoul and Gyeonggi area, visited Beijing and Huhehaote, Inner Mongolia for Future Forest arbor projects. Participation fees (air fares) cost 300,000 KW each.
The second Green Corps were selected during February 15th- 22nd, 2003, by applying through Future Forest website www.futureforest.org. Examiners included the 1st Green Corps, council members and staff of Future Forest. First, 120 students were selected through paper review and the final 60 were finalized after an interview. The aspects we were looking for were leadership for the globalize future, general knowledge of China, previous volunteer experience, fluency in foreign languages including Chinese, and ability to incorporate in future Korea- China relationships.
The delegates had a series of seminars workshop on the March 15th and inauguration ceremony on the March 24th. The workshop consisted on series of seminars in environment, culture and economic issues concerning Korea and China. The assessment meting was held at April 17th and disbanding ceremony at 3rd of May 2003, with every member involved in this project present.
The purpose of Future Forest Green Corps is to raise environmental consciousness and seek mutual friendship through well organized, regular on and off-line networking. Through a weeks? visit of China, the 2nd Korean Green Corps not only achieved this goal but was also able to understand extensively the environmental issues and cultures of China.
